How Two Accidents Changed My Life
Hi, I’m Dr. Julie Gurbacki. Two accidents changed my life, and led me to a deeper appreciation of the body’s innate ability to heal.
My First Turning Point
At 15, I was stung by a box jellyfish. It nearly killed me.
I had seen chiropractors since I was a kid, but this was different. The chiropractor treating me didn’t just adjust my spine: she used supplements and muscle testing to re-balance my whole body during recovery.
I started asking questions: “How does this muscle testing work? Why these specific supplements?”
Something clicked. Chiropractic could do so much more than I’d understood. Still, I wasn’t planning to become a chiropractor.
The Second Turning Point
Years later, I was working as a personal trainer in Montana. One summer, a boating accident left me with severe whiplash and a concussion. It was so bad that I had to stop training clients.
During treatment, my chiropractor said, “You’d be really good at this. Have you ever thought about chiropractic school?”
I hadn’t. But I thought, “Why not? I’ve got nothing to lose.”
I applied to Palmer College of Chiropractic—the original chiropractic school. Never thought I’d get in.
I got in.
After graduating from Palmer, I built a practice around what I learned from those two accidents: that healthcare works best when someone takes the time to look at the whole picture—your spine, your labs, your nutrition, your stress.
Why It Matters
Growing up, I watched family members take medications that kept symptoms at bay but never made them actually better. I was on them myself as a teenager.
Though medications have their place, most conventional medicine puts a bandaid on your symptoms and expects you to manage them forever. That’s not healing.
Here’s what I offer instead: We find out why your body’s out of balance, so you can finally feel like yourself again.

The Values that Guide My Practice
You deserve to be heard.
Many of my patients have been dismissed by other doctors. When you come see me, that changes.
There’s usually another way.
You may be taking medications already. That’s okay, we start wherever you’re at. Our goal isn’t to manage your symptoms forever, but to support your body’s ability to heal.
Meet people where they’re at.
Not everyone’s ready to overhaul their whole life. That’s okay. We start with what makes sense for you right now.
Why my patients like working with me:
- We have actual conversations. Not me talking at you or typing while you talk. Real back-and-forth about what’s going on and how to fix it.
- I dig deeper. When other doctors run standard panels and call it good, I look for what they’re missing—thyroid, hormones, inflammation, food sensitivities. Whatever shows us what’s really happening in your body.
- I’m straightforward and honest. What tests I’m recommending and why. What they’ll cost. How long protocols typically take. If I don’t think I can help with something, I’ll tell you that too and point you in the right direction.
Why I like working with my patients:
- They’re done with band-aids. They’ve tried managing symptoms with medications and it’s not working. They want to know why things don’t feel quite right and how to address the root cause.
- They trust themselves. Even when other doctors said “everything’s fine,” they knew something was wrong. They’re looking for someone who will actually investigate instead of dismissing them.
- They’re all unique. Some come in for hormones, some for pain, some for gut issues. Some are ready to dive into all three modalities, others start with one. I like that every patient brings a different puzzle to solve.
