5 out 5 (50+ Reviews)
Work with Omaha’s highly rated functional medicine practitioner.
What is functional medicine?
Most doctors run basic labs—CBC (complete blood count), CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel), cholesterol, maybe TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)—and send you home if you’re “within range.”
Functional medicine goes further. We run comprehensive panels (over 90 analytes), including but not limited to: full thyroid (not just TSH), vitamin D, inflammatory markers, autoimmune markers, food sensitivities.
Then we add targeted testing based on your symptoms. Think hormones, neurotransmitters, and gut health.
We compile all of your information, look at your lifestyle—diet, stress, sleep—and get to the root cause. Then we create a personalized supplement and lifestyle protocol designed specifically for you.

Functional Medicine Helps Three Types of People
Some patients are struggling with symptoms and can’t get answers. Others want to optimize their performance and feel their best. And some are focused on prevention and want to catch problems early before they start.

- Hormonal imbalances (irregular cycles, menopause, hot flashes)
- Digestive issues (bloating, constipation, IBS)
- Weight that won’t budge
- Sleep problems
- Brain fog and trouble focusing
- Skin issues (acne, eczema, inflammation)
- Autoimmune conditions
- Feeling “off” even when standard labs come back normal

In-Depth Visits
Not rushed 15-minute appointments. We sit down and actually talk about your health history, your symptoms, and your goals. Then we figure out exactly which labs you need.
A Protocol Built Just for You
After your labs come back, we analyze your results and create a personalized protocol based on what your body needs. No generic supplement lists or one-size-fits-all approaches.
Comprehensive Testing, Not Just the Basics
We run full thyroid panels, inflammatory markers, autoimmune markers, food sensitivities, and more. Not just CBC and cholesterol. We often find what conventional testing misses.
We Start Where You’re Ready
Not everyone’s ready to overhaul their entire life. We can phase things if needed. The important thing is that you’re invested in getting better. We’ll meet you where you’re at.
“I highly recommend Dr. Julie! I researched practitioners for months before I decided to go with her. She is very thorough in learning about all your symptoms to find the root cause. She is caring and easy to talk to. I started to see progress after just two weeks of starting the supplements she suggested. I drive over an hour to see Dr. Julie and it has been well worth it!”

Your Labs Tell an Important Story
Your body has been trying to tell you something. The fatigue, the brain fog, the PMS, the digestive issues. These aren’t random, they’re clues. Your body’s way of saying something’s not quite right.
Lab testing helps us read those clues.
First, we run comprehensive panels that reveal inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, and food sensitivities.
Then we look at your diet, stress levels, and sleep patterns. When we connect the dots between your labs and your daily life, we can create a protocol that actually works.
What labs do we run?
Comprehensive Panels:
- Full blood work (90+ analytes): CBC, CMP, lipids, cholesterol
- Full thyroid (not just TSH)
- Inflammatory & autoimmune markers
- Vitamin & mineral levels
- Food sensitivity testing
Targeted Testing, As Needed:
- Hormone panels (perimenopause, menopause, cycles)
- Neurotransmitter testing (mood, anxiety, sleep)
- GI/stool testing (digestive issues)
- Adrenal function
Your labs + your lifestyle = your full health picture.
That’s how we create protocols that actually work.

Do you take insurance?
We’re an out-of-network provider, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. However, upon request, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
Here’s why this actually works in your favor: We can run the tests you need and recommend the treatment that’s best for you—not what an insurance company decides to cover. No pre-authorizations, no coverage denials, no limits on which labs we can order.
Many patients find they save money compared to conventional care once they factor in co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs for tests insurance won’t cover.
How much does functional medicine cost?
Investment varies based on which labs you need and what your protocol includes.
At your first appointment, we’ll talk through what testing makes sense for you and go over costs upfront so there are no surprises. Some patients start with comprehensive blood work and food sensitivity testing. Others add hormone panels, neurotransmitter testing, or gut health panels based on their symptoms.
We can discuss payment options and what works for your budget during your consultation.
Do I have to do all the labs you recommend?
The blood work and food sensitivity test are non-negotiable for functional medicine patients. We need that baseline information to create an effective protocol.
Additional testing (hormones, neurotransmitters, gut health) depends on your symptoms and what you’re ready for. If finances are tight, we can phase things. It might take longer to get you feeling better, but we meet you where you’re at.
When will I start seeing results?
Most patients start seeing improvements within 4-6 weeks when they follow the protocol consistently.
Some things improve quickly (energy, sleep, digestion). Others take longer (hormonal balance, weight loss, autoimmune symptoms). Your timeline depends on how long you’ve been dealing with these issues and how committed you are to making the changes.
This is a journey, not a quick fix—but it’s worth it.
How often do I need follow-up appointments
After your initial results appointment, we typically check in every 4-6 weeks to see how you’re feeling and adjust your protocol as needed.
Once you’re feeling better and stable, we can space appointments further apart. Some patients come quarterly for maintenance, others prefer monthly check-ins. We’ll figure out what makes sense for you.
Follow-up appointments can be in-person or virtual (for Nebraska residents).
Where do I get my blood work done?
We provide all the lab orders at your first appointment, then you schedule the blood draw yourself at a local lab. Most patients use Quest or LabCorp locations throughout Omaha.
The blood work usually takes about 15 minutes. Results come back in about a week, then we schedule your follow-up appointment about 2 weeks after your blood draw to go over everything.
What’s the difference between functional medicine and chiropractic care?
Can my first appointment be virtual?
Do I have to book the free consultation first?
Not if you already know you want functional medicine. You can book directly for a first appointment if you’re ready.
The free consultation is helpful if you’re not sure which service is right for you (chiropractic, functional medicine, acupuncture, or a combination), or if you just want to talk through your situation first before committing.
